My Story
I go by the name Art In Martin Sefako,an expression of my talent from within, a gift from God, to the world as my audience. Due to my work i later picked up a nickname Sirdrawalot,
a nickname that describes what i do in the simplest way. I been drawing for as long as i can remember i dont think theres a day in my life where i havent made atleast a little sketch maybe on paper on a table or on the ground so the nickname just came to me.
I fell in love soon as i can hold a pencil. From young, I’ve always been obsessed with drawing things i saw. I drew everything infront of me as child at home and I always asked my parents or sisters to help me where i was stuck. When i started preschool my work stood Out according to my teachers. Theres no art subject At government primary school but my school, flowertown primary made a club for afterschool, i joined the club at standard 7 subject and competed with other primary schools where i got 2 position 1s, a position 2 and 4 with my drawings.
I did art as a subject at mahalapye pekenene cjss and was the only jce A in art there in 2013. I went on to do art at madiba senior where i also got an A* in art 2015 bgcse. I used art to apply for university and graduated at ub 2022 degree in architecture.
Ive been drawing all my life, whether A leaf, a car or a person to the best ability i could from a young to now, usually artists after that stage either shift from that goal to abstract , digital and i chose hyper realism
ART STYLE – HYPER REALISM
The artist uses an art style referred to as hyper realism or photo realism. As these words simply explain, this is the opposite of abstract art, it has more focus, more detail and more time as it requires a perfectly refined skill. This art style depicts reality at a very high level that the artworks could be mistaken for photographs from a camera. The artist chooses this style and uses mainly human faces mostly as muses to connect better with my audience especially people that inspire me or a certain emotion on a face or a moment beautiful captured and frozen by pencil on of paper to last eternity. I create this art content as photos online to see how a final product looks like and as videos to show the processes of creation.
I started art as a business on social media in 2017 and started getting more local recognition and interviews and clients. My art collectors are my ladder to growth in art and i love making them happy as it motivates me, some send me reaction videos as they receive my art which is an amazing experience. Across the years i accumulated over. 240 000 followers on facebook only, 90 000 on tiktok and can reach upto 8million post reach spreading my work across boarders and oceans. With Art as my daily job doing thousands of portraits sending them to clients all over the world mostly SA based from my home studio in Botswana
As a result I have worked with individual art collectors or commissions and collaborations with organizations locally and outside Botswana including FNB, Bank of Baroda, BEC, BVI, Botswana Law society, Huawei Technologies and Edgars South Africa and more. With Art services such as work celebration portraits, retirement gifts work seminars and art lessons. I have also handed over art and received support from celebrities such as Hungani Ndlovu, Stephanie Sandows, Thabang Molaba and Khuli Chana.
Social media is my main stream of spreading my work blessing me with eyes across boarders and across oceans man.
I recently did a series of 4 Videos on tiktok drawing SA influencers including DjZinhle, kairo forbes and nastyc and got millions of views across my social media and last year 2023 i caught to attention of of an agency in SA leading art masterclasses project with Edgars.
Edgars was hosting an art competition for young picassos under 18yrs, and i was hired to prepare them for their submissions, i taught from the basics of learning how to see as an artist, introducing art tools young artists aren’t familiar with and how to use them, the we got to actual drawing lessons where i taught shading techniques and how to apply them while drawing as well as sitting one on one with the students to help them according to their own unique art styles
COMMUNITY ARTIVISM
Combining art with activism to bridge the gap between the society and art with purposeful art ideas, Art In Martin Sefako called out local artists and lead a pop up gallery at main mall Gaborone to honor the late highly celebrated local singer Sasa Klass. These actions received welcoming hands from the public, pierced through newspapers as all of the artworks were later donated to the family and displayed at the singer’s official memorial service.
I recently created a letsile Tebogo artwork which became the nationwide loved artwork that the public insisted he must have until I finally met him making Batswana amazingly happy. The day he won the Olympics gold medal Big companies in Botswana started donating gifts to his cause, millions of money, houses and as a visual artist I decided to also contribute what God has abled me to contribute and do my part. So the next day Friday I decided to make a drawing to congratulate him, I searched the internet for a perfect photo, since I had already drawn him alone in 2022 this one had to be different so I picked a photo of the moment he once ran off the field to go hug his mother, then I imagined wings on his mothers back and them holding the gold medal he just won together in their hands, I loved the concept in my head because after recently losing his mother the artwork depicts an eternal mother’s love, as his guardian angel celebrating her sons Olympic gold medal even from the heavens.
My art journey is powered my God so my future in art is limitless. I’m going international, worldwide and will be the best artist i can be. I wish to own art galleries and be an impact in society as an artist. With proper funding i could achieve alot of my goals.
I further advise youth to remember their gifts, especially that the world economy is bad with few jobs and call
Out parents that you know your children best, education is important but don’t let them drift away from their gifts and support them as best as you can.
My services include both drawing with pencil, pastels, coloured as well as paint, offer art lessons, advertising through my art as well as bookings for art displays and everything artsy you can think of.
